Jim's Ode to His Momma

This is the message that Jim gave on Mother's Day at church about Jude. Thought the rest of you might like to read it.

"My mother made a choice many years aho that has forever changed my life and the lives of my siblings, and will change many more lives for generations to come. She committed that if there was one thing that she would place a priority on, she would do everything in her power to ensure that her children grew up to know the Lord. There is no greater task. There is no nobler vision than to see that your children are serving the Lord Almighty.

"As a child I didn't understand why we went to church 3 times a week, or why we had our own Bibles before we even understood what they said, or why we always thanked God for our food, or why we had Bible studies in our home, or why we did any countless number of other things...
But now I realize that all of the things we did were my parents being intentional. It was my mother setting her focus as a parent on the one task before her - that of making sure her children grew to really know their God. My mother is truly incredible."

A woman of few words...
Strike that.

A woman of many words, arranged by her quick wit into strategic and methodical sentences to pierce the hearts of her enemies, and woo her comrades into absolute loyalty.
Who is this lady called Katy P? Hmm, Let's see...


Compassion and caring is her character;
she serves as one serving the Lord.
Something I'm sure she learned from her mother;
from her father, a love for the Word.

She's nomadic, and not nearly as scared of adventure
as she'd have us all think that she were.
She's a glutton for change, but how can we blame her?
She's been created by Him for His works in this world.

Laughter is her gift to others,
(like an artist) she paints a smile upon each face.
Strength lies in her humor,
her one-liners are by no means commonplace.
(When she has a really witty comment in mind,
sometimes she can barely keep a straight face!)

She's a person devoted to family.
Miles, Elizabeth, Taylor and Grace
are some of her most favorite people.
She loves our kids with a warmth of embrace.

That brings us to her heart for children...
one of her gifts from the Lord.
He's going to make her a mom to the nations,
to the children who are hurting, lonely and poor.

But, before she goes off into the world
to seek the destiny to which she's been called,
Let's enjoy all the laughter, joy and fun times
that Katy shares freely with us all.

Make way in your days for her presence!

Parting was such bitter sorrow...

happy Mothers Day

Siblings, there's no easy way for me to say this. But since I'm the princess, and you all know this anyways, I think today is the day to come right out and tell you. I'm Mom's favorite. She said so. I could list the reasons why, but I think it would be rude on my part to rub it in. Better luck next time to the rest of you. Happy Mother's Day, Mom. Be gentle with the others. They already know they're not the favorites and might need a hug today.

Hi-ho family. My friend at work has a blog with her family, and its fun to read all about their lives. I think this would be a fun way for everyone to keep up to date on each others lives. Post pictures, funny kid stories, etc., etc.

My update of the day: Taylor has found and now loves his little boy parts. He thinks they are the best new toy a boy could ask for. We couldn't be prouder...

If you haven't heard, Taylor and I are coming up with Katy on June 17. We can't wait. And neither can the people who will be flying with us.
